The Australian Council on AI Strategy is an independent, non-partisan charitable body that connects the people shaping Australia’s AI decisions with the analysis, networks and expertise they need.

Our first priorities

Frontier AI training in Australia.
We work with policymakers on the practical action needed to develop and train frontier AI models here. This includes examining approaches that value Australian creators and copyright holders, grow Australian capability and contribute to global AI safety. We believe Australians will share the benefits of frontier AI and manage its risks, only if we are a full participant in the frontier AI ecosystem, rather than a bystander.

Strengthening AI Safety
Hosting AI training compute is the pre-requisite for exercising any significant global influence to advance AI safety. Australia has an opportunity to lead in the development of safety standards and to attract the best talent in the world to help us shape the domestic and international order on AI.

Immersion tour.
The Australian Government is making consequential decisions about AI on a compressed timetable. Few of the people making those decisions have seen frontier AI technology first-hand. Fewer have sat with the people building it, the independent evaluators testing it, or the forecasters modelling where it goes next. In November 2026, ACAIS will take a delegation of Australian parliamentarians, senior public servants, business leaders, philanthropists and journalists to San Francisco and Washington DC for an immersion in frontier AI development and AI governance.

ACAIS is governed by a Board of Directors. Our Chief Executive Officer leads the management team and program of activities. Our leaders bring experience across strategy, public policy, science, technology, economics, national security, energy, and more.
